F.A.Q. Pigment Problems

This patient had a need to improve skin pigmentation and texture. Treatment included 3 microneedling sessions followed by 1 VI Peel. She was also referred to Bree for eyebrow micro blading.

Q: What are my best options for pigment issues like hyperpigmentation (age spots/dark patches)?

*Please note that for the most effective treatment, you will want a treatment plan which will include at least two of these options. Hyperpigmentation improves but it does not forever go away without consistent treatment at home between office interventions!

  1. VI Peel - a highly effective (but gentle!) peel that penetrates to the dermis layer of skin for a visible improvement in tone, texture and clarity. Peeling lasts about a week — day 3 peel begins, and the bulkof peeling is over by the end of day 5. Some people only slough but peeling in bulk is much more common. I won’t do this peel in the hottest months (unless there is unusually cold weather) in July, August, & September. Even though it is safe year round, I don’t want to keep you from having an amazing beach day during the peak summer season! I am a firm beleiver in the health benefits of sunlight & enjoying being outside.

  2. IPL / BBL Laser - this is a laser that targets pigment and can effectively “burn off” dark spots. However, depending on the level and depth of your pigment, treatment settings may have to vary to achieve your best result. After an effective treatment the unwanted spots will darken and a week or so later will slough off.

  3. Microneedling with skinboosters - causes pigments to rise to the epidermis from the dermis faster than it would normally, so pigments can eventually slough off. Skinboosters such as Klardie Ruby have ingredients that speed the process of recovery, brightening, and improving texture.

  4. Medical Grade skincare & SPF - since uneven pigmentation worsens due to hormonal fluctuations, heat, and UV light, having high quality targeted home treatment to thwart daily damage is very important! At XOXO Beauty we have several formulas that will help you win the battle against hyperpigmentation. During your consultation we will decide which will work best for you.

F.A.Q. Loss of Collagen.

This patient recived two fractional erbium yag treatments with exosomes and graowth factors; these photos were taken two months apart.

Q: What can I do about sagging skin?

*Sagging skin is not just sagging skin! It is a combination of loss of bone (structure), movement of fat pads (sagging) and collagen loss of the skin (weakness). Therefore, there are usually several layers to address.

1. Address bone structure loss - this is done by using filler and placing it along the current bone structure; this is a common technique for the jawline, chin, temples and cheeks. Spot-treating wih filler in these areas can help recreate the look of a youthful facial structure and can help balance facial features as you age.

2. Address changes in fat pads - this is done with a PDO Threadlift. Threads are essentially specialized suture material that dissolve with time, leaving collagen in place to rejuvenate skin. This treatment should be repeated everey 1-2 years and can be targeted to the brows, midface or submentum.

3. Address sagging skin - For skin that is starting to sag Mono Threads are amazing! Mono threads are tiny PDO threads that primarily build collagen and have a secondary effect of killing unwanted fat cells too (great for under the chin, eye bags, in jowels, neck etc). Addressing both the accumulation of underlying fat and the loss of the skin’s collagen is the best remedy to address sagging.

Q: What can I do about crepey skin or textual issues and scars?

1. Fractional Erbium Yag laser is the best way to address crepey skin and scars, for elevated scars a steroid injection can also be helpful. After just a few treatments visible improvements are apparent because the fractionated laser causes adjacent cells to be damaged while others are spared, which results in a very helpful hyper-production of collagen and elastin to tighten and strengthen skin. In some areas like the eyelids or near the eyes the skin is very thin so the treatment will always be mild and need several sessions. The rest of the face and the body has thicker skin so it can tolerate more aggressive treatments; however, the more agressive a treatment is the longer the skin will take to recover. Therefore each appointment is done based on your tolerance, with three treatments being the typical recommendation.

2. Next is microneedling with skinboosters like Klardie Dia, which is best to improve texture, hydration and healing. Microneedling can also reduce scars that are essentially wrinkles.

3. My next best recommendation is an Advanced VI Peel which can reduce fine lines as it kicks on collagen building.

4. Last, medical grade skincare is helpful to keep cellular turnover high and improves the look and feel of skin from home!
